Lindsay first began practicing yoga in late 2014, while living in Denver, Colorado, and after moving to Rapid City, South Dakota, in 2015, her dedication to her practice and interest in all things yoga became even more evident. Here she found a community to learn and grow in. In her mind, she wanted to become the somewhat cliche, ideal yogi: a physically fit, mentally healthy, carefree hippie, unfazed by the annoyances and trials of everyday life. But even though that cloudy, cliched lens she noticed real changes happening in her body, mind, and spirit. Lindsay had felt the transformative powers of asana and was compelled to start exploring all aspects of this ancient practice.
She has dabbled in Hatha Yoga, Ashtanga, Vinyasa, Kundalini, Bhakti, and Yin, but discovered her preferred style, alignment-based flow yoga, while attending yoga teacher training. Lindsay completed her 200-hour RYT (Registered Yoga Teacher) certificate through the Dharma Institute for Awakened Living in Laramie, Wyoming, in March of 2018. Her training helped deepen her understanding of yoga and dharma, and shortly after graduating she started Soul Awake Yoga LLC and opened a small studio in Hermosa, SD. Here she taught for several months before she and her partner decided to follow a new adventure chasing his UXO career. So far they have lived in FL, AZ, KS, and now NM where they really committed to their nomadic lifestyle and embraced full-time RV life. They are loving the area and hope to stay awhile so Lindsay took the opportunity to reopen Soul Awake Yoga. She will be offering small group and private classes at Bright Life Arts Studio in downtown Gallup.
Yoga has helped her through grieving the loss of her mother and two of her beloved pets, uprooting her life numerous times (relocating and changing careers), two surgeries, and a diagnosis of Rheumatoid Arthritis. Yoga has given her the confidence to find her truth and feel at home in her own body even when facing difficult situations. Lindsay believes that yoga should be practiced naturally, not obsessively, and teaches alignment-based flow yoga, inspired and aided by conscious living. Her classes are designed to help awaken the soul, strengthen the body, and ease the mind. She aims to facilitate an intimate relationship between you and your practice that grows to exist between you and your own life.
In July 2023, Lindsay took her studies of Ayurveda, Yogas's sister science, to a new level by attaining an Ayurvedic Nutrition Certificate. Soon she will be incorporating this into her offerings to help students create a healthy relationship with food and live a more balanced life.
Off the mat, you can find Lindsay out walking her dogs, hiking with her partner, practicing belly dance, exploring new communities, experimenting with new plant-based recipes, studying Ayurveda, or just cuddling up on the couch with her cats.
Lindsay also enjoys painting, reading, podcasts, and movies that make her cry, which reflects her soulful side. Always highly sensitive and empathetic, she is a heartfelt and compassionate teacher. Mark Whitwell defines a yoga teacher as, “Nothing more than a friend, nothing less than a friend.” Lindsay approaches teaching with this same sentiment as she strives to connect with each student and make them feel well-cared for during class.
Life and all its trials can feel daunting, with the world’s problems overwhelming us. In the face of stress and fear, yoga can bring about awareness and help us find healthy and productive ways to deal with life’s issues on and off the mat. As Stephen Cope says, “This little corner of the world is ours to transform. This little corner of the world is ours to save.” Lindsay invites you to her corner of the world to help guide you on the journey of saving yours.
